A native of San Miguel de Allende, México, Alba E.
González Porras has been the Choir Director at St.
Helena Unified School District since fall of 2012. She began her musical training at the Conservatorio de las Rosas, in Morelia, México and received her Bachelor of Arts in Voice, Choral Conducting and Music Education at California State University, East Bay. Her teaching credentials include the Single Subject in Music credential, the Career Technical Education in Performing Arts (CTE) credential, and the Spanish credential.
Alba's vocal, choral, and piano mentors include Dr. Evelio Pampillo, Dr. Buddy James, Dr. Jeffrey Sykes, Pamela Hicks, Miriam Tikotin, Guadalupe Gongora, Grammy-nominated Dr. James Jordan, Bruce Koliha, and Christiane Karam to mention some.
As an opera performer, Alba has played the roles of Idamante from Idomeneo, Cherubino from Le Nozze Di Figaro, Mrs. Nolan from The Medium, and Dorabella from Cosi Fan Tutte, to mention some.
Prior to her tenure as the Director of SHUSD Choral Program, Alba was the Associate Director for the California State University, East Bay Oratorio Society under Dr. Buddy James tutelage, and the distinguished choral music program at Monte Vista High School Choirs under Bruce Koliha, in Danville, California. Her previous and concurrent music education experience includes work in liturgical settings, with community-based choirs, instructor of guitar, piano, concert and jazz bands, instructor of songwriting techniques and music production programs.
This past school year, Ms. Alba's choirs were invited to sing at the Multicultural Choir Festival in the world-renowned Carnegie Hall, in New York, and to be the choir guest of honor for the Coronation Ceremony of the British Consulate at Grace Cathedral, in San Francisco.
In the past eleven years, the SHUSD Choir Program under Ms. Alba's baton has consistently been rated as one of the top Choir Programs in California and the Pacific Northwest. As the artistic choir and vocal director of the St. Helena Unified School District, Ms. Alba Gonzalez Porras-Arredondo leads the 6th and 7th Grade Treble Choir, 8th Grade Youth Choir, SHHS Concert Choir and SHUSD elite choir, the SHHS Chamber Singers.
Aside from her teaching and professional music passion, Alba loves creating her own music and paintings. We can listen to her personal music project on platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify and Amazon Music. She is also working on a vocal project by women composers throughout the centuries with local Napa musicians. During her recreational time, Alba loves to paint watercolor and acrylic paintings.
